Seasonal Fisheries Aide

Closing Date: February 1, 2012

Salary: $8.25 - $13.50 per hour. Housing is available at all locations.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is currently taking applications for positions as seasonal fisheries aides for the summer months of 2012. Write "seasonal fisheries aide" in the section entitled "Position Applying For." Also include preferred area(s) - locations that you would be willing to work (All, Williston, Dickinson, Riverdale, Bismarck, Devils Lake or Jamestown).

Essential Functions:

  • Assist fisheries personnel with reproduction and population test netting, trap and transport of different fish species, limnological sampling, spawning activities and may involve data compilation. This includes loading and unloading boats, nets, and other equipment.
  • Assist with habitat enhancement.
  • Equipment, building and gear maintenance to be used by biologists (includes net repair).
  • Overnight travel required (vehicles provided). Expenses while away from main work station will be paid (includes motel and meals).
  • Individual must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Opportunities are also found with our Development (boat ramps, docks & piers) and Aquatic Nuisance Species Programs (monitoring).

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference given to an enrolled student at a qualified college or university majoring in an aquatic biology related field. Student should be in good academic standing with at least one college level course of Ichthyology, Chemistry and Math. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and possess a valid driver’s license.

Job Duration:
3 months (Mid-May through August) but may be up to 11 months depending on need.
