Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW)
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshops are designed primarily for women with an interest in
learning skills usually associated with hunting, fishing, and related outdoor
endeavors. Although they are open to anyone 18 or older, the workshops are tailored primarily
to ladies who have never tried these activities or who are beginners hoping to improve their
skills.
Winter Mini Workshops - Jan. 9 and Feb. 19-21, 2010
Two mini workshops are scheduled for winter 2010:
- January 9: Ice fishing and darkhouse spearfishing. Cancelled because recent snow storms have limited access to lakes.
- February 19-21: Dog sledding, snowshoeing and tracking, cross country skiing, and winter survival are scheduled at
Lake Metigoshe located near Bottineau.
Costs for the workshops range between $50 and $60.

Annual Summer BOW Workshop - August 13-15, 2010
The 2010 annual summer workshop is set for August 13-15, 2010, at Lake Metigoshe State Park, near Bottineau, North Dakota.
The three-day workshop will provide participants the opportunity to take in several programs
covering various outdoors activities.
- Workshop subjects include archery, canoeing, field dressing big game, introduction to firearms,
fly fishing, kayaking, navigating outdoors, fishing rod constructing, duck decoy painting,
Dutch-oven cooking, basic GPS (global positioning system), plant identification, and tracking and
trapping.
- The workshop is approved through University of North Dakota Professional Development for
Educators, and qualifies for one continuing-ed college credit upon completion and submission of an
essay along with the fee for credit.
- Evenings are devoted to entertaining programs.
- Cost is $135.
- Attendance is limited to the first 100 participants.

Women's-Only, Mentored Waterfowl Hunt - Late September
2010
This annual women's-only, mentored waterfowl hunt is anticipated for late September 2010 in
Minot. Sponsored by the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Program and Delta Waterfowl, this outdoor
excursion is for those ladies wishing to begin waterfowl hunting.
- Participants are instructed in firearm safety, shotgun shooting, waterfowl identification, and
the techniques for decoying and calling waterfowl.
- Participants must possess an hunter education certificate, current hunting licenses, and provide
their own hunting clothing, rubber boots or waders.
- Cost for the hunt is $20.
