Volunteer Projects
The game and fish department hopes to educate as many people as possible about wildlife, its habitat, and its
conservation. Because our staff is limited, much of this effort depends on volunteers. If you are interested in
wildlife and the outdoors and think educating the public is important, we have a project that you can help us teach.
Check out the volunteer projects below and contact us.
- Birds of North Dakota- Use a color slide show to teach about birds
and their habitats. Field guides and binoculars provided to conduct
field trips.
- Boat and Water Safety- Teach about water safety using the Boating
Basics Course and hands-on learning trunk.
- Conservation Volunteers- Assist in outdoor activities such as planting
trees, maintaining properties, collecting and entering data, and
work at area lakes.
- Fur Harvester Education - Coming Soon- Share
your knowledge and expertise with all ages and levels of fur hunters
and trappers, from beginners to experienced. You do not need to be an
experienced trapper to help teach this course. Individuals with
a background in teaching or knowledge of furbearer biology are encouraged
to become instructors.
- Hooked on Fishing- Teach basics of fishing, aquatic habitats, and
fish species found in the state. Take students fishing with department
provided equipment.
- Hunter Education- Teach students about safe gun handling, wildlife
conservation, and hunter ethics.
- Outdoor Wildlife Learning Sites (OWLS)- Use an Outdoor Wildlife Learning
Site to teach about habitat and wildlife conservation.
- Project WILD and Aquatics - Provides teachers with instruction enabling
them to teach students about the basics of wildlife and conservation.
- Wildlife of North Dakota - Uses color slides, furs, wings, skulls,
and other items to explain the importance of habitat and the adaptations
made by wildlife.
