Deer Gun Season

Deer Hunting Regulations

2012 season dates: (noon) November 9 - November 25.

  • Applications available in early May.
  • Application deadline: June 6.

Licenses issued by weighted lottery.

Submit a lottery application on-line or download and print an application.

Resident licenses required:

  • Fishing, Hunting and Furbearer Certificate, $1
  • General Game and Habitat License, $13, or a Combination License, $32 (includes Small Game, General Game and Habitat, Furbearer, and Fishing licenses)
  • Deer Gun License, $20/$10 for youth under age 16.

Nonresident licenses required:

  • Nonresident Fishing, Hunting and Furbearer Certificate, $2
  • General Game and Habitat License, $13
  • Deer Gun License (Note: Pending 2012 governor’s deer proclamation finalized in late April, this license may not be valid for taking of mule deer does in gun units 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E, 4F and 3B1 and 3B2):
    • Lottery deer licenses are priced at $200 through the first and second lotteries.
    • After the first lottery is held the price of a license drops to $50.

Hunter Education Requirements and Who is Exempt

Persons born after 1961 must complete a certified hunter education course and show proof of certification when buying or applying for hunting licenses (official courses offered by other states and Canadian provinces meet these requirements).  Exceptions: Persons under age 12 who hunt only with their parent or legal guardian; persons who hunt exclusively on land of which they are the record title owner or operator; and those who obtain an Apprentice Hunting License.
