Statistics released by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department indicate sharp-tailed grouse and Hungarian partridge hunters had successful seasons in 2007.
Last fall’s sharptail harvest was nearly 113,700, up 5 percent from 108,400 in 2006. Number of hunters was 36,300 (25,400 residents, 10,900 nonresidents), up 2 percent from 35,500. Seasonal bag per hunter increased from 3.0 to 3.1.
Counties with the highest percentage of sharptails bagged by resident hunters were Ward, Mountrail and Stutsman. Top counties for nonresident hunters were Divide, Sheridan and Stutsman.
Last season’s partridge harvest was 81,800, up 62 percent from 50,500 in 2006. Number of hunters was down 1 percent to 26,100 (18,600 residents, 7,500 nonresidents), compared to 26,500 in 2006. Bag per hunter increased from 1.9 to 3.1.
Counties with highest percentage of partridge taken by resident hunters in 2007 were Ward, Mountrail and Williams. Top counties for nonresident hunters were Burke, Sheridan and McLean.
