The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is promoting wildlife conservation and resource management by offering “Habitats of North Dakota” workshops to school districts free of charge.
In collaboration with the North Dakota Studies Project, the workshops are geared toward assisting educators in implementing five “Habitats of North Dakota” texts into the classroom.
Wetlands, prairie, badlands, woodlands and riparian habitat texts are illustrated and enhanced with full-color photographs provided by the Game and Fish Department. A teacher-resource guide includes worksheets, assessments, maps, illustrations and other suggested activities. The texts meet North Dakota state science standards for grades 3-6.
The workshops offer a hands-on approach and are available in two, four, eight and 15 hour formats. The two-hour workshop focuses on the concept of habitat, while workshops of longer duration focus on specific habitats. The 15-hour workshop provides one graduate credit through the University of North Dakota.
Educators interested in hosting a workshop, or who want more information on the “Habitats of North Dakota” texts, should contact Sherry Niesar, curriculum specialist, at sniesar@nd.gov, or (701) 222-8940.
