Deer hunters who participated in last fall’s Hunter-Harvested Surveillance program were recently notified by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department of winning a muzzleloader or Sagen Saw.
Dr. Dan Grove, wildlife veterinarian, said names for five muzzleloaders and 100 Sagen Saws were randomly drawn, and hunters who were selected were notified the first week in January. “We want to take this opportunity to thank all hunters who participated in this program,” Grove said. “It is obvious how important this issue is to our sportsmen and women.”
During the 2008 hunting season deer were sampled for chronic wasting disease and bovine tuberculosis from units in central North Dakota. In addition, the Game and Fish Department continued TB testing on hunter-harvested deer in northeastern North Dakota from units 2C and 2D.
Grove said hunters in western North Dakota will have an opportunity to win a muzzleloader or Sagen Saw when the department tests for CWD and TB in the western third of the state in 2009.
