Since the mid 1990's state and federal wildlife agencies have been concerned with an alarming increase in the population of light geese whose overabundance has imperiled their fragile spring Arctic breeding grounds.
In April 2009 the North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s wildlife division in cooperation with the University of North Dakota sponsored a series of public information meetings featuring Dr. Robert (Rocky) Rockwell, American Museum of Natural History and professor at City College, New York City University. Rockwell, a world-renowned snow goose expert, has studied this highly-adaptable species for more than 40 years and explains the ramifications of overpopulation, control strategies, and the degradation of their breeding habitat.
