State Wildlife Grant - T-16-R

In March 2006, North Dakota’s Wildlife Action Plan was approved by the National Advisory Acceptance Team for satisfactorily addressing each of the eight elements required under the Wildlife Conservation and Restoration Program and the State Wildlife Grant program. This program is a proactive approach to keeping common species common and preventing other species from joining the federal threatened and endangered species list. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has devoted two staff positions to manage the State Wildlife Grant program and maintain the North Dakota Wildlife Action Plan as a living document. There is a continuing need to conduct additional planning activities and initiate or implement accepted conservation actions of the Wildlife Action Plan. Although the Department has greatly developed and improved our nongame program, it is still essential to continue investigating species distribution, abundance, demographic information, and habitat needs. Two nongame biologists are needed to fulfill this staffing role.
