Summary of Work
This position is responsible for managing the agency’s accounting, payroll, and financial operations to ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of financial transactions. Key responsibilities include:
- Accounts payable and accounts receivable administration
- Payroll processing and related reporting
- General ledger maintenance and account reconciliations
- Financial reporting and analysis
- Month-end and year-end accounting activities
- Compliance with state policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Audit preparation and maintenance of supporting documentation
- Resolution of financial discrepancies and accounting issues
- Providing guidance, training, and support to agency staff on accounting processes
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Financial Services Accountant. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, work independently with minimal supervision, and effectively manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines. This position requires strong analytical skills, a commitment to accuracy, and the ability to identify financial discrepancies, inconsistencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
The ideal candidate will possess a positive and professional attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to supporting the agency’s mission. Success in this role requires the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, partner agencies, and external organizations while maintaining a solution-focused approach. Active participation in hunting, fishing, and/or boating is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field with 2- years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial analysis, or a related financial discipline.
- Additional college coursework in Accounting, Finance, or a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate will have:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting standards, and governmental accounting practices.
- Experience using computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with Microsoft Access and/or PeopleSoft is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and prepare accurate reports.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to maintain detailed financial records and ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
- The ability to successfully complete any required background investigation and meet eligibility requirements for government employment.
