CWD Test Results - 2025 Season

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department tested 1,224 animals for chronic wasting disease statewide; this includes deer, elk, and moose. The Department confirmed 16 deer tested positive for CWD, all of which were taken by hunters.

Deer that tested positive for CWD came from the following units:

  • 3A1 (five mule deer, one whitetail)
  • *3D2 (two mule deer)
  • 3E1 (one mule deer and one whitetail)
  • 3E2 (one mule deer)
  • 3F1 (one whitetail)
  • 3F2 (two mule deer and one whitetail)
  • *2B (one whitetail)

* Unit where the disease had not been previously detected.


CWD Test Results - 2024 Season

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department tested 1,456 animals for chronic wasting disease during the 2024 sampling season. Game and Fish confirmed 17 deer tested positive for CWD, 15 of which were taken by hunters and two were clinical deer confirmed through diagnostic examination.

Positive cases came from units

  • 3A1 (seven mule deer)
  • 3E1 (one mule deer)
  • 3E2 (one mule deer)
  • 3F2 (four mule deer and two whitetails)
  • *3B2 (one mule deer) and
  • *3B3 (one whitetail).

CWD Test Results - 2023 Season

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department tested 2,240 animals for chronic wasting disease during the 2023 sampling season. Game and Fish confirmed 11 deer tested positive for CWD, 9 of which were taken by hunters and two were clinical deer confirmed through diagnostic examination.

Positive cases came from units

  • 3A1 (three mule deer)
  • 3A2 (one whitetail)
  • 3E1 (one mule deer and one whitetail)
  • 3E2 (two mule deer)
  • 3F2 (two mule deer and one whitetail)

CWD Test Results - 2022 Season

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department tested 1,968 animals for chronic wasting disease during the 2022 sampling season. Game and Fish confirmed 24 deer tested positive for CWD. Confirmed cases included 22 hunter harvested mule deer; one harvested white-tailed deer; and one mule deer hit by a vehicle. The estimated infection rates among mule deer were 4.9% in unit 3F2 and 9.8% in unit 3A1.
