Summary of Work
Primary duties include:
- Delivering home-study courses which includes the first class of instruction and the follow-up class to administer the written and practical exams. The focus of this position is to help deliver North Dakota Game and Fish home study hunter education courses in the respective communities.
- Coordinate with volunteers for additional help with courses.
Accurate and timely record keeping of classroom results.
Job Duration
Position is year-round; however, the position is part-time. Instructor will lead 12-15 classes per year which will be based on the need and opportunity. Applicants must be able to work weekends and evenings during busy seasons. Overnight travel may occur.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of two years of college coursework majoring in education, wildlife management, outdoor education, recreation administration or a field related to the program area. A minimum 3 years of hunter education instruction can substitute for the education requirement. Applicant must be extremely self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision. Must be comfortable giving public presentations and working with hunter education students. Must be organized, have excellent communication skills and the ability to use technology to deliver courses.
Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and be flexible with work hours. Overnight travel, weekend and evening hours may be required.
Applicant must be an active hunter and have experience with firearms.
Requires satisfactory completion of a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given for:
- Experience in education or outdoor education
- Experience coordinating events
- Experience working with and/or supervising volunteers
- Experience with North Dakota Hunter Education programs or similar training programs
- Experience and active participation in other related outdoor recreational activities
