The upperside of male skippers is mostly yellowish to orange with dark brown to black borders and no stigma. The underside of the hindwing has a grayish margin. Female is similar, with the upperside being a lighter/duller orange. A second variation of the female is mostly purple-black with dull white spots.

Threats
The loss and degradation of native prairie and habitat fragmentation are the primary causes for species decline.
Research and Monitoring
Statewide pollinator surveys have been completed by the USFWS HAPET team and NDSU.
Pollinator surveys should continue throughout the state to determine species range and population trends in ND.

- Develop pollinator habitat.
- Protect and manage high quality native prairie.
- Develop connectivity between quality habitats.
- Reduce pesticide use.
