NDGF Help Center FAQ

If I plan to move a boat dock or lift, what do I need to know?

The movement of docks/lifts can facilitate the incidental establishment of ANS in new waters. This pathway is especially risky for species that actively attach to substrate, like zebra mussels.

For this reason, a new regulation was added in 2022. The regulation reads “All docks, lifts and related equipment must be dried and left out of the water for at least 21 days before they may be placed in another water."
