Temperate or True Bass Family: The introduced white bass is the only member of this family in North Dakota.


White Bass Identification

  • Dorsal fin is separated
  • Silver-gray fish with rows of broken, dark, narrow stripes running partially the length of its body

Notes

At times, it reproduces abundantly and then the population seems to almost vanish until conditions are favorable.

It has done well in our large waters such as Devils Lake.

Some call this fish a silver bass.

White bass are commonly found in schools, and feed on a variety of insects, invertebrates and small fish.
