Watercraft Registration and Renewal
Registering a newly acquired watercraft is primarily a manual process. You can generate a 10-day temporary permit online and download the forms needed to complete the process. The completed forms will need to be mailed or brought into a North Dakota Game and Fish Department office.
Renewals may be completed entirely online.
- During the purchase/application process, do not use your browser's back button to navigate to previous pages. Always use the buttons provided within the webpage itself.

Buy and Apply Link
Register a watercraft by either clicking on the link in the "Watercraft" section of the "Buy and Apply" page...
My Account Link
...or click on the "Register New Watercraft" link on the "My Account" page.
On the Watercraft Registration page you can download the application form which includes a listing of documents required to register a watercraft. If you plan on using your boat immediately, you can also generate a 10-day temporary permit (Note: only one temporary permit per boat is allowed).
To generate a temporary permit, fill in all the data on the form and click on Register.
The system will then generate your temporary permit. Print this permit and carry it with you when operating your watercraft until you receive your registration and decals.
Watercraft Registration Renewal
Renew a watercraft registration from the "My Account" page.
Select Watercraft to Renew
You will be shown a listing of the boats registered to you. Select the boat(s) you wish to renew.
After adding the boat renewal to cart in the previous step, you will be able to delete the renewal, add another watercraft, checkout or continue shopping. The renewal costs are displayed here as well.
After paying for your order you will be shown a screen with the order summary. This is your temporary 10-day permit for the renewal. Use the print/download link to print the permit.
If you still have questions about or problems with the system after reviewing this tutorial, please contact the Department at 701-328-6300 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
