Pheasant Behavior
Originally from Asia, ring-necked pheasants were introduced to the U.S. in the 1880s and are a popular game bird.
During the breeding season, male ring-necked pheasants will establish a territory and attempt to attract a group of hens.
Competing males are run off. Territory defense generally starts with posturing and displays aimed at intimidating rivals. Occasionally conflicts will escalate into physical attacks.
